Construction of wind farm “Tārgale” in Ventspils region begins / Article / LSM.lv

The group of energy companies “Utilitas” in Tārgale parish, Ventspils region, will start the construction of the wind farm “Tārgale” in April, the company informed. In the first phase of the project, infrastructure will be prepared for the installation of 14 wind turbines with a total capacity of 58.8 MW. The wind farm will be commissioned in autumn 2022.

In the first phase of construction work, the area will be prepared for the installation of wind turbines, construction of piles and foundations, creation of public roads and cable and earthing networks. Turbine installation works will be performed in the next construction phase.

In 2022, 14 wind turbines with a capacity of 4.2 MW each will be installed in the wind farm. It is planned that the wind farm “Tārgale” will produce 155 GWh of electricity during the year, which is enough to provide electricity to more than 50 thousand households. Wind turbines will be provided by the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturer “Vestas”. The maximum height of the turbines will reach 152 meters. The construction of innovative turbine blades will use a special technology (trailing-edge serration), reducing the total noise level of the blades. In addition, the turbines will be equipped with icing sensors and light detectors.

The main contractor of the wind farm “Tārgale” will be the company “Nordecon Betoon”. Many local suppliers and subcontractors will also be involved in the project implementation.

In March 2021, Utilitas acquired the wind farm development company SIA TCK.

Renārs Urbanovičs, a member of the Board of TCK and the leading implementer of the project, said that many measures have been taken during the development of the project not only to meet the regulatory standards required for construction, but also to further reduce its impact on the environment and residents.

“This has been achieved by reducing the number of initial wind turbines from 26 to 14 and improving technological solutions to increase production efficiency and reduce overall noise levels.”

pointed out Urbanovich.

In 2011, the detailed plan of the wind farm “Tārgale” was approved by Ventspils County Council. The project documentation has been evaluated by the Ventspils Regional Environmental Board and other institutions, which have confirmed that the wind farm will meet regulatory standards, minimizing its impact on the environment. Various experts and institutions were involved in the preparation and evaluation of the project, who have provided an assessment that the operation of the wind farm will not significantly affect the bird and bat population or air traffic safety.

CONTEXT:

Already reportedthat Kurzeme plans to build the highest wind generators in Latvia. Residents in Ventspils region opposed the construction of the wind farm and collected signatures against the planned highest wind turbines in Latvia.
