In Croatia, the construction of a new road bridge to the Pelesac peninsula has finally been completed, BTA reports. The bridge connects the village of Komarna on the southern Adriatic port with the town of Briesta on the Pelesac peninsula, giving the far south of Croatia the city of Dubrovnik by land connection with the rest of the country, which was only possible via Neum, the only Adriatic town. which is in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The 2440-meter-long bridge consists of 13 sections, each 285 meters long, six 33-meter reinforced concrete pylons and two sails. The design of the bridge is the work of Slovenian engineer Marian Pipenbacher, and the construction was carried out by the Chinese Road and Bridge Construction Corporation. The Chinese company won the construction contract in 2018 at a cost of 2.081 billion Croatian kunas (277 million euros) and a deadline of 36 months, and the official construction work began on July 31, 2018.

The bridge and road approaches are expected to be open to traffic in June 2022, before the start of the tourist season in Croatia. The total value of the project is estimated at 420.3 million euros and includes the construction of the bridge, road approaches and the ring road of the town of Ston.
