Gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, which connects Russia and Germany on the Baltic Sea bed, has raised concerns that Western European countries’ dependence on Russian gas could increase and that Moscow will be able to increase pressure on Ukraine as Europe becomes less dependent on gas transit supplies through Ukraine.
Officials in the Baltic States have also been critical of Nord Stream 2′ emphasizing that this is a geopolitical project and runs counter to the objectives of the European Energy Union.
