In October of this year, the construction of the highway from Ruse to Veliko Tarnovo should begin, regional minister Andrey Tsekov announced on Friday in the parliament.
He indicated that the design works have already been started. The highway was declared an object of national importance during the caretaker government of Galab Donev.
The road will have two active lanes and one emergency lane, with a maximum speed of 120 km per hour. In December 2022, a public tender was held for the design and construction of the highway. On December 19, 2022, the implementation of the design works started.
The object is divided into two parts, funding is available under the new “Transport Connectivity” program. The first part is from Byala to the village of Vardim with a length of 6.8 km. The minister hopes to start work there in October to keep the environmental impact assessment in place.
“Private properties have been announced for expropriation and the procedures have started, we aim to have a construction permit in October 2023,” specified Tsekov.
The fields fall into three sections with a total length of just over 19 kilometers along the route between Ruse and Byala and bypassing the town of Byala. They are defined according to the approved detailed development plan.
“If the project is prepared within the terms stipulated in the contract, and is accepted without objections by the MRRD, there is no danger that the period of the prepared EIA will expire. If this does not happen, then a new eco-assessment will be done, which will delay the project”, explained the minister. He added that funds for the construction of the highway will also be pledged for 2024. Tsekov expects that an order for the part from Byala to Veliko Tarnovo will also be announced this year.
Tsekov also said that the new road maintenance contracts will be drawn up after he receives the conclusions of the assigned audits on the procedures next week.
