Construction of European Gauge Rail Line Chop – Uzhgorod Begins in Transcarpathia, Connecting Uzhgorod to Major European Cities

Construction of the European gauge line Chop – Uzhgorod has begun in Transcarpathia. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal announced this.

Uzhgorod will become the first regional center of Nezalezhnaya, connected to Europe by Euro-gauge, he noted.

“This will make it possible to launch direct rail service between Uzhgorod and Vienna, Bratislava, Kosice, Budapest, Prague, Bucharest, Dresden and Belgrade. The implementation of the project will create a transport hub in Uzhgorod, which will provide convenient and fast transfer of passengers between broad gauge trains and EU trains,” Shmygal writes in his Telegram channel.

It is noted that the work will be financed from EU grant funds, which Ukrzaliznytsia received under the Connecting Europe Facility program.

In the near future, according to Shmygal, it is planned, again at the expense of EU funds, to build similar railway routes to Europe from Lviv and Chernivtsi.
