The Roads Authority has announced that the construction of a direct road connecting Jeddah and Makkah has reached its final stage. The direct road scheme will help to reach Makkah from Jeddah in the shortest possible time. It will be very helpful for Hajj Umrah pilgrims. Once the construction of this road is completed, it will be possible to reach Makkah from Jeddah airport within 35 minutes. So far, 70 percent of the road construction has been completed in three phases.
Construction has been completed in 53 km so far. The fourth and final phase of the 20 km long road is currently under construction. The total length of the road is 73 km. It is constructed as four lanes in both directions. So once the road is opened for traffic, it will become the main route from Jeddah Airport to Makkah. In addition, the authority stated that the traffic congestion will be significantly reduced, including on the currently used Haramain Expressway.
