The Alexandria Agricultural Road was the main road connecting Alexandria to Cairo and the governorates and the delta. It was called a highway and was opened in 1959, as a result of the road passing through many important cities and governorate capitals, which led to urban sprawl uncontrolled , road choking and inability to expand it.
Road development and expansion plan:
• Recycling of existing pavement layers with modern systems.
• Widening of the carriageway to 2 lanes/direction to reach 4 lanes/direction in the distances outside the residential blocks.
• Construction of 10 air bridges to resolve surface crossings and free up city traffic.
4 bridges have been completed (Al-Sharqawiyyah – Qalama – Al-Shammout – Toukh Tanbasha) and 6 bridges are under construction, the most important of which are Ajhour and Arab Al-Raml bridges.
