Construction continues to fall, last rising in February

“The construction industry continued to be affected by the coronavirus epidemic in October. Construction production is held by large companies in civil engineering, building construction is in decline, ”said Petra Cuřínová, Head of the Department of Construction and Housing Statistics at the CZSO.

The performance of building construction, which includes the construction of flats, offices or warehouses, decreased by 13 percent year-on-year. Within civil engineering, which mainly includes transport infrastructure, 4.8 percent less was built than a year ago.

“Building authorities also report limited traffic and permitting processes are difficult,” she added. The building authorities issued 7004 building permits, which is 7.6 percent less year-on-year. The approximate value of permitted projects decreased by 35.9 percent year-on-year.

In October, the construction of 2,581 flats began – 23.8 percent less than a year ago. The construction of 2,886 dwellings was completed, 0.8 percent less year-on-year.

According to Eurostat data, construction output fell by 2.7 percent year on year in September across the 27-nation bloc.
