The main customs office in Lörrach checked around 100 construction sites in southern Baden in the first half of 2021 – in search of illegal employment, social fraud and violations of minimum wage rules. According to the responsible department of the authority, the financial control of undeclared work should be checked more often, demands Andreas Harnack, regional manager for Baden-Württemberg at the trade union IG Bau. The Freiburg region attracts construction crews from all over Germany and abroad.
