One month to the day after the publication of the decree appointing the members of the commission responsible for finalizing the draft new constitution of Mali, the document was submitted on Monday to the president of the transition. According to Fousseyni Samaké, the chairman of the finalization committee, certain provisions have been reformulated and additions have been made. Thanks to these amendments, the submitted draft contains 191 articles against 195 for the preliminary draft. “The final document that I have just received today, will crystallize, without a doubt, the hope of the whole nation as to the establishment of a true democracy” welcomed the president of the transition , Colonel Assimi Goita. The preliminary draft constitution was strongly criticized by several entities, particularly political ones, who had called for its abandonment. The Malians must in principle, according to the timetable, express themselves on this constitution during a referendum scheduled for March 19th.
