Arkane boss and Redfall director Harvey Smith had a great comment about working with Bethesda. In short, he appreciates everything that the publisher does for Arkane, but feels in the shadow of this giant.
Fifteen years have passed, and all this time you can say that I was in the shadow of Bethesda. We’re releasing the great Dishonored, they’re releasing fucking Skyrim, their greatest game ever.
We released Dishonored 2 – the best game I’ve ever made – and they’re making another great Fallout. We are very proud of what we do and we are very proud of the team; I enjoy working at the same company as id Software, Shinji Mikami and Todd Howard, they are strong in every way and we learn from them.
Starfield is going to be a really big event and it will keep people happy for years to come, but it’s a whole different story compared to Redfall. There is some overlap between the audiences, but not completely, and we definitely have a different tone.
He separately noted that Arkane is the underdog of Bethesda. The team is smaller than most of the company’s studios. Harvey himself is going to play a lot in Starfield.
Redfall releases on May 2 for PC and Xbox Series. Starfield releases on September 6th for PC and Xbox Series.
