Constance: As in Constance, the Advent mood should arise in the Corona year

“We want to bring light into this dark time.” That says Eric Thiel, Managing Director of Marketing und Tourismus Konstanz GmbH (MTK). Because what gives many people the most joy at Christmas time, unfortunately has to be canceled this year. Cozy get-togethers, mulled wine and strolling around the Christmas market.

That’s why the city center shouldn’t be dark. In order to ensure the Christmas spirit again this year, the MTK, together with the Stracke family and the Event Promotions company, have come up with some alternatives that are also possible under pandemic conditions:

Christmas Lighting in the entire city center

An imposing Christmas tree has been in the market place since Wednesday. In front of it a Christmas carriage. Many lanterns in the city center are also sheathed with fairy lights. Actually, the city would not have lit this year because of the canceled Christmas market. “Other cities actually remain dark this year, but we didn’t want that,” says Eric Thiel.

Some corona heroes go away empty-handed: Which companies in the region are paying Christmas bonus this year?

Together with the organizers of the Christmas market, which is not taking place at all, a Christmas atmosphere has been created in the old town. Not only in the market square, but also along Bodanstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse, lighting creates a feeling of Advent.

The electricity for this is provided by the municipal utility. The lighting itself comes from Event Promotions. “We had the lights in stock anyway because they were actually intended for the Christmas market,” says Managing Director Tommy Sprrer.

When the MTK approached them, they were right there. There is also an eye-catcher in front of the lake. Next Friday and Saturday, according to Helena Galanakis, Head of City Marketing, the Konstanz lettering will provide a Christmas photo motif. He might already be known to one or the other from the evening market.

Constance Adventstrchen

At the Konstanzer Adventstrchen there is either a surprise, discounts or extras every day in a retail shop or a restaurant in the city center. As with an advent calendar, each of the 24 participating retailers or restaurateurs receives a token.

Even if the Christmas market has to be canceled this year, the city should still shine.

Posters in the shop windows always point to the doorway. It starts, for example, on December 1st at the Tourist Information in Konstanz, where visitors with a purchase of five euros or more will receive a free T-shirt. Whoever takes part in the campaign can be found on the Internet at www.konstanz-tourismus.de/adventstuerchen.

“With this and with the lighting, we want to create incentives so that more people come to the city center again,” says Helena Galanakis. The dealers are not doing well this year, adds Eric Thiel. And yet they would have agreed to take part in the one-time discount campaign.

Konstanz

The Konstanz Christmas market has now been completely canceled. The planned, smaller variant will also not take place.

In addition, the whole thing is linked to a competition. If you want to win, you can upload a picture using the keyword #adventstrchenkn on Facebook or Instagram and thus have the chance to win prizes like a champagne breakfast at Gladina ice cream parlor.

More digital Christmas Market

Because the real market is falling victim to the pandemic this year, retailers are particularly suffering. Actually today would have been the starting shot, but instead of the smell of roasted almonds and the usual crowd, due to the pandemic, you will only find cool air in the market town these days.

The Stracke family has therefore considered an alternative: a digital Christmas market. This lists all dealers who would actually have presented their goods on site. Levin Stracke says: “Many retailers don’t even have an online shop, but we want to give them the chance to sell their goods too.” The online Christmas market will take place for the first time from today at www.weihnachtsmarkt-am-see.de.

Christmas post office

To ensure that there is also something for the little ones, MTK, Event Promotions, the Stracke family and Edeka Baur have set up a Christmas post office in front of the Edeka branch in Bodanstrasse. There children have the opportunity to write their wishes to the Christ Child.

“And the Christ Child is writing back,” says MTK managing director Thiel with a smile. The post office is open during the opening hours of the Edeka.

A wish tree is also planned, on which citizens can hang their wishes so that others can fulfill them. When it will stand is still unclear.
