American conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has to pay $ 965 million in damages to relatives for the shooting at an elementary school in the American town of Sandy Hook. This was decided by a jury of a court in the state of Connecticut, where Sandy Hook is located.

In 2012, a man at a Sandy Hook elementary school shot and killed 26 people, including 20 children, ages six and seven. It was the deadliest elementary school shooting in U.S. history.

Jones said the shooting was organized by the government to pave the way for a gun ban. The victims would also have been actors.

The families of eight victims killed in the shooting were raised during the trial that Jones made money for years by spreading lies. He did this via his website, where he also offered all kinds of products for sale. Over the years, families have faced harassment and death threats from Jones supporters.

Jones acknowledged that the shooting actually took place, but refused to apologize to the families. His lawyer argued that prosecutors did not justify the alleged damage suffered by the families. He asked the jury members to ignore political views in determining the amount of damage.
