Consorcio de Seguros receives 3,410 applications for the earthquakes in Granada

Granada, Feb 3 (EFE) .- The Insurance Compensation Consortium, attached to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, has received 3,410 requests for compensation for the series of earthquakes that affect the metropolitan area of Granada, with up to five tremors that have exceeded one magnitude 4 since last January 23.

The director of Operations of this consortium, Alejandro Izuzquiza, informed Efe this Wednesday that 35 experts have already been sent to the area to assess the reported damages and that the first compensation could begin to be transferred to those affected in the next ten days.

Of the 3,410 requests received by the CCS, which will address the damage caused by the seismic series as long as the affected assets had insurance in force at the time of the earthquake, 3,120 correspond to homes and communities of owners.

In addition, another 234 refer to shops and other types of public or private buildings for non-industrial use, 24 to office offices, 19 to industries and 13 to automobiles.

Of the total of 3,410 applications, most of them have been concentrated in Atarfe (1,039), a municipality followed by Granada capital (728), Santa Fe (348), Maracena (235), Vegas del Genil (148), Las Gabias (137 ), Albolote (95), Cúllar Vega (69), Churriana (59), Armilla (56), Pinos Puente (46) and Chauchina (45).

Once the consortium receives the applications, registers them and orders an assessment from an insurance expert, a team of processors analyzes the expert reports and the insurance conditions of the damaged property and, in view of this examination, makes the payment to the insured through bank transfer.

Izuzquiza has explained that the best ways to send these requests are both the consortium’s own call center and its website, to which the insured and owner of the damaged property must provide their data, those of their insurance policy in force and the location of the same for its evaluation.

With this procedure, either by telephone or internet, the claim file is recorded in a computerized manner, to which a number is assigned.

For this reason, the director of Operations of the CCS has asked that no requests be made through “intervening agencies”, postal mail or offices outside the consortium, since the channels enabled by the latter are faster, free and generate an automatic registration in the system.

According to Izuzquiza, the consortium will take into account both the expert’s opinion and the information provided by the National Geographic Institute (IGN), which also determines the areas in which the earthquake has caused damage due to its generating intensity.

He also added that it is still “early” to make a global assessment of the damage and damage caused, although he has added that the claims for compensation correspond to the entire seismic series in the area, regardless of the day the earthquake occurred. , and that those in which it is concluded that they are a consequence of the earthquake and not pre-existing will be addressed.

Since midnight this Wednesday, the metropolitan area of Granada has registered four earthquakes, one of them of magnitude 2.2 (1.24 hours) and the rest of 1.7 (0.21 hours), 1.5 (2.41 hours) and 1 , 6 (3.21 hours), with an epicenter in both Atarfe and Santa Fe.

These four tremors represent, for the moment, a decrease compared to the number registered in previous days, although the seismic series continues in the area, the most important earthquake of magnitude 3.5 that took place at 4:19 p.m. on Tuesday . EFE
