Considered retiring several times

Tara Bloch-Vere (32) is one of this year’s The Voice participants who sang her way into the hearts of both the mentor Matoma (31) and the Norwegian viewers. Now she is ready for the semifinals, but says that the road there has not been easy.

– I have been very scared. Afraid to believe in the dream again, she tells TV 2.

She has always had a dream of being on stage and making a living from music. However, this was a dream she had given up, until last year when she signed up for The Voice.

Now she is one of six remaining participants who will fight for a place in The Voice final, which kicks off on 27 May. Despite this, she has considered withdrawing from the singing competition – several times.

Put the dream on the shelf

It’s a slightly stressed, but happy, Bloch-Vere who picks up the phone when TV 2 rings. Although she feels the pressure before a new live broadcast, which this time is the semi-final of The Voice, she is also ready for a new round.

– It has become easier, because you get used to going through the process. I focus on what I have to do and the song I have to sing. So I distance myself a bit from the fact that it is a semi-final, she says.

The 32-year-old’s dream has always been to be able to make a living from music, but at some point in her life she chose to put it on the shelf. Today she has a regular job, is married, and has two small children.

When The Voice dream became a reality, it was important for her to take the family down to the Oslo area when the live broadcasts started.

– Until that week, I have commuted. Now the family lives with the parents-in-law in Stabekk, and I live in a commuter home in Oslo. It is a demanding situation that I stay away for a long time, but at the same time it is temporary.

It is especially difficult for her to be away from her daughters. The 32-year-old says that the youngest daughter does not understand much of why the mother is away a lot, but the daughter of four understands more.

– She sees me on TV, and understands that my mother sings on TV. Therefore, she also understands better that I am away a lot, she says.

– What if I regret the rest of my life?

When TV 2 asks Bloch-Vere what it’s like to get this far in The Voice, she says that it all feels surreal. She had not thought she would get this far, but knew she had to test out her musical dream – at least once.

– What if I had regretted for the rest of my life that I never tried ?, she says was the question she asked herself in the period before the participation.

Then it went from strength to strength for the 32-year-old. The mentor Matoma chose to take her with her to the live broadcasts, and then the viewers voted her on. Apparently everyone has faith in Bloch-Vere – with the exception of herself.

She has in fact considered withdrawing from the singing competition several times. Both before and after blind auditions, in addition to as late as just before the live broadcasts.

– I have been afraid that I would mess up in this dream, and be dissatisfied if it did not work out. So the reason I wanted to withdraw was fear, and maybe a little cowardice, to show me and let go.

Thanks one special person

Among other things, Bloch-Vere praises the mentor Matoma for showing great support, and tells how he asked her the right questions every time she has been unsure. But there is one man she highlights as her most important supporter – namely her husband.

– I was close to retiring just before the live broadcasts, then I had to take many rounds with my husband. I have to thank him for completing the first live broadcast. It was so nice to do that, she says.

There have been several who have shown her great support after she came to the live broadcasts in The Voice. Last week she was told that there were around 150 people who had gathered at the local pub in Hammerfest to see her perform that evening.

– Then I just cracked up. I was so moved and happy to see how my hometown stands up and supports, she says and says she broke down in tears as soon as she found out.

Now the 32-year-old is again ready to deliver on stage, and hopefully secure a place in the final. She will sing the song “Bed of Roses” by Bon Jovi, and thinks this will be extra demanding to sing as the song has a personal meaning for her.

– I will focus on keeping my head cool, and keeping calm. Focus on communicating well, because I can not do that when my head is boiling, she concludes.

You can watch the Voice semi-final live on Friday at 20 on TV 2 and TV 2 Play.
