Freiburg – The Freiburg report on sexual abuse by clergy has consequences in the Black Forest town of Kirchzarten.
The local Oskar-Saier-Haus will be renamed Caritas Senior Center Kirchzarten on June 1st. This was announced by the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald Caritas Association in Freiburg.
In April, the authors of the independent study were extremely critical of the behavior of the former Archbishop of Freiburg, Saier. The high cleric officiated from 1978 to 2002 and died in 2008.
The facility in Kirchzarten in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district was named after the archbishop in 2004.
“Today, the Caritas association, as the sponsor of the house, is very affected by the content of the abuse report about him, which was previously unknown,” the statement said. With the new name, the association wants to signal that it is on the side of those affected.
The abuse report also burdened Saier’s successor in office, Robert Zollitsch (84). His term of office until 2013 was characterized by “concrete cover-up behavior”. Zollitsch had said through a spokesman that he would not comment on the allegations.
