The Conmebol responded negatively to the request for postponement that the five Argentine clubs Participating in the Copa Libertadores did on Friday, when the return of the competition was announced for September 15, although it will try to give it two extra days of contemplation.
The response, through an official letter, was on Saturday to Defense and Justice, who had been the one to speak up on Friday, after the meeting of the Conmebol Executive Council, where the calendar was approved, with a single disagreement: the of the Argentine Football Association (AFA).
Then, the other four involved, through AFA, Boca, River, Racing and Tigre, folded in a context of uncertainty surrounding Argentine football regarding the return to training, reason why they asked to delay, at least, until September 21 their return to the Libertadores.
The justification is that, although progress was made in the protocols, the AFA and the trans-Andean government have not agreed when the teams will be able to resume the practices, while in most South American countries progress was made in this regard and they are in preparation sports advantage.
“The schedule was discussed and approved. It was presented 65 days in advance of the Libertadores. As an example, we could cite some Leagues in Europe, such as Portugal that returned after two weeks of training, Spain three weeks, England four weeks and Germany five weeks, ”argued Conmebol, in his response to Florencio Varela’s ‘Falcon’.
Anyway, as a contemplation, the Conmebol warned that it is “in negotiation with all the parties involved to try schedule the first game scheduled for Thursday “ September, 17th.
