Seoul, Dec. 21. (Yonhap) – The 9th Congress of the Korean Children’s Union of North Korea (KCU) will be held in Pyongyang, North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Wednesday morning. This will be the first in five years.
KCU members have arrived in the North Korean capital from all over the country, the official news agency said without specifying when the event would take place.
“The 9th Korean Children’s Union Congress […] it will be a significant opportunity to fully showcase the courageous spirit of KCU members growing into reserves to support the future of socialist Korea,” KCNA wrote in its message.
The 8th KCU Congress was held in June 2017 and the 7th Congress in 2013. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un attended both editions. The KCU, founded in 1946, is an organization that brings together children aged 7 to 13. Its members are known to wear a red scarf.
