The Congress has taken issue with BJP leader Babita Phogat’s comments on Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s visit to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to support female wrestlers demanding criminal action against Wrestling Federation of India President and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for alleged sexual harassment and intimidation. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate criticized both Phogat and Union Minister Smriti Irani for a lack of action on the issue, calling them “not even capable of apologising to the women of this country.” Phogat’s cousin Vinesh also criticized her for not supporting the rights of aggrieved female wrestlers. The Delhi Police have since registered two FIRs in connection with the allegations.
