Congress Avoids Government Shutdown, but Uncertainty Looms for American Officials and Soldiers

American officials and soldiers heave a sigh of relief. Their salary is guaranteed for the coming weeks. A few hours before the end of the fiscal year on Saturday evening, Congress agreed to avoid a government shutdown, which would have caused a slowdown in the entire American economy. However, the arrangement is only valid until November 17. Elected officials in Washington will therefore have to get back to work to find a more lasting compromise in order to avoid the threat of a “shutdown” beyond this deadline.

These future negotiations risk being even more uncertain. Because the psychodrama of recent days will leave its mark.
