Ranjit Savarkar, the grandson of “Veer” Savarkar, has spoken out against Rahul Gandhi for defaming his grandfather’s name for political gain. He also accused politicians in Maharashtra of using Savarkar’s name for political purposes, and demanded that they show their support for him. Ranjit threatened to file a police report against Gandhi if he did not apologize for his comments. Meanwhile, the Congress and other opposition parties have accused the BJP of targeting them, with opposition MPs creating a ruckus in both houses of Parliament on Monday. The BJP has accused the Congress of resorting to low-level politics to justify Gandhi’s remarks against the OBC community. Leaders of 18 opposition parties attended a strategy meeting at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence and discussed the way forward, with the Trinamool Congress joining protests in the morning. The Shiv Sena (UBT) did not attend the meeting in protest against Gandhi’s remarks about Savarkar, but Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis dared Uddhav Thackeray to quit the Maha Vikas Aghadi if he did not support Savarkar.
