“Vivienne” award for ecological textiles for sustainable skirt collection
“I congratulate the students of the Herbststrasse Art and Fashion School, who have won the youth award for ecological textiles for the second time in a row,” says Arno Langmeier, Vienna’s interim director of education. “For their anti-fast fashion collection, the young people have dealt intensively with consumer behavior and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and translated them into fashion in a creative way.”
The Vivienne, the Austrian prize for ecological textiles, was launched at the beginning of 2023 by the Federal Ministry of Climate and the COMÚN Foundation and was awarded for the second time this year.
An independent jury unanimously selected a winning project from dozens of submissions from schools across Austria and this project was awarded the “Vivienne” youth prize.
Pupils want to contribute to climate protection. The Education Directorate launched the SDG Award in 2022 and annually honors schools for projects related to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, a network was created with the Vienna Climate Officers that supports projects and interdisciplinary climate education at schools and gives the courage to act. The network currently consists of around 75 teachers. The focus of the regular networking meetings and attendance at training courses is on exchange.
