Congo Records 5 Ebola Cases in 10 Days, 3 Dead

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

World Health Organization (World Health Organization/WHO) revealed 5 cases Ebola occurred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the last ten days. Three of these cases resulted in death.

Reported Reuters, Monday (18/10), local health officials estimated the latest spread of the virus related to the outbreak in 2018-2020. During that period, infection with the Ebola virus killed more than 2,200 people and infected more than 1,000 others.

In an official statement, the WHO said the last three confirmed cases of Ebola were in the Butsili district, close to the city of Beni, which was the epicenter of the previous outbreak.

Infections that arise after a major Ebola outbreak can occur because the virus can survive in the semen of survivors.

Another cluster of cases linked to the 2018-2020 epidemic broke out last February and was contained in May after six deaths.

Currently, there are only two Ebola vaccines available in the world: Merck and Johnson&Johnson. Last week, medical personnel began vaccinating case contacts using the Merck vaccine.
