Congo Basin Climate Commission: Ali Bongo Ondimba was online Congo Basin Climate Commission: Ali Bongo Ondimba was online

Libreville, Wednesday, July 19, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – The Gabonese Head of State took part this Wednesday by videoconference in a session of the said Commission. The press release from the Presidency of the Republic.

His Excellency Mr. Ali Bongo Ondimba, President of the Republic, Head of State took part today by videoconference in the Extraordinary Session of Heads of State and Government of the Congo Basin Climate Commission.

This Meeting chaired by the President of the Republic of Congo, HE Mr. Denis SASSOU NGUESSO, President of the Congo Basin Climate Commission was held as a prelude to the organization of the second Summit of the three Basins of Ecosystems and Tropical Forests “Amazonia-Borneo-Mekong-Southeast Asia-Congo, scheduled for October 26 to 28 in Brazzaville.

Many Heads of State, Government or their representatives took part in this Summit, as well as heads of international organizations.

The Bureau of the Conference was constituted and adopted as follows:
– President: Congo;
– Vice President: Gabon;
– Rapporteur: Burundi;
– Secretariat: Congo Basin Climate Commission.

All the participants made their respective statements on, among other things, the issues and challenges of the Brazzaville Summit, which will focus on a common desire to preserve Planet Earth, which is in danger, and the climate emergency.

These meetings in October will see the confirmed participation of the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the President of the Republic of Congo.

The speeches of all the participants focused on the need to preserve the major biodiversity ecosystems and tropical forests, which constitute a major challenge for humanity, with regard to the acceleration of climate change and its impacts. The main objective is to set up strict governance structuring global ecosystems which represent 80% of global biodiversity, regulating the carbon balance.

The Head of State in his speech also added the importance for all the countries invited on the occasion of the October meeting, of the implementation of the commitments of the Paris Agreement concerning the carbon market.

In this perspective, Gabon assuming the Presidency-in-Office of ECCAS, it will convene a Technical Meeting of the Ministers of the Environment of our Community Organization on the said question which will be held before the Summit of the three Basins.
