Confusion Surrounding Windows 11 Update: Version 23H2 and Copilot

When Microsoft presented the new Surface computers at a press conference about two weeks ago, it also officially presented a significant update for Windows 11. It is mainly intended to bring Copilot to computers with Eleven. But in the end it won’t be version 23H2. On that occasion, I drew attention to the manufacturer’s poor communication. Now we know why all the confusion happened.

Microsoft demonstrated a number of novelties, not only Copilot. It was a lot of features that the company has been testing in recent months. It would make sense if this package came out as Windows 11 23H2. This was apparently expected by a number of media outlets who immediately published articles describing the update as version 23H2. Then they had to repair.

The press materials we received before the event, which were released at the time of Microsoft’s presentation, did not mention the 23H2 version at all. On the contrary, they talked about the fact that the new functions will arrive in September in Windows 11 22H2, i.e. in the last stable release so far.

I will now skip the insufficient explanation and informing about other aspects. As usual, Microsoft has mixed news in the system, in applications, with at least one heading to the Insider program first. He went on to explain that Copilot won’t actually be available everywhere right away, mainly bypassing Europe. This is essential information that writing editors need to convey to their audiences.

Copilot will always be available on the side of the screen unless you hide it

But Microsoft could not even clearly explain how it will be with the version designation. Windows 11 23H2 was supposed to be released this year, we knew that for sure. But why will a large package of new functions be released for the 22H2 version? Why will version 23H2 be released later, as Microsoft said after the presentation (a journalist asked on the spot Paul Thurrott), and what will be its content? There was a huge confusion.

Thurrott describes that he then asked various people on the team about Windows without getting coherent answers. It had the effect that even the creators of the operating system were not sure what was going on. They only agreed that “23H2” was a bad marketing name, so marketing should work with a different name.

The autumn novelties also include layers in Painting

As I pointed out earlier, not long after the live presentation, Microsoft published an article on the Windows IT Pro blog that was already working with the term 23H2, albeit rather vaguely. At least he confirmed that this version will be released in the fourth quarter. But overall, the feeling of confusion rather strengthened. He confirmed that Microsoft’s communication is confused. We still didn’t know why Microsoft didn’t release Copilot and other news right away as version 23H2.

Look for ulterior motives behind everything

He cracked the nut Zac Bowden, or its internal resources. Microsoft was apparently moving to release the news package as version 23H2, but then realized that wants to get Copilot to people as soon as possible. It always takes months for a new major version to be distributed, while regular service updates with patches are mandatory.

Additionally, you can ignore the new major version of Windows if you choose. You can leave it installed until the end of support for your release. Regular consumer editions are supported for 24 months. Version 22H2 was released on September 20, 2022, and support ends on October 8, 2024.

There will be no difference between switching between virtual desktops with computers

When the news becomes part of the 22H2 version, it will of course spread much faster to computers with Windows 11. Although an optional update was released in September, new features could and should be installed mandatorily for everyone between October and November, as they will become part of regular service updates with patches that are released on the second Tuesday of the month.

Thus, the earlier announcement that Windows 23H2 will formally be a minor update makes sense. The new version will primarily serve to start the next part of the Eleven’s life cycle. Companies mainly care about it. Households are more interested in features, and in this regard, the arrival of the 23H2 version will be of little importance. They will probably bring a few more novelties, but the main wave containing Copilot will be over by now.
