The website Footofeminin has published an overview showing that Hegerberg has been removed. She seriously injured her knee in late January.
The local newspaper Le Progrès writes on Thursday that it is possible she will get a place among the 22 players who travel to northern Spain. Lyon will face Bayern Munich on Saturday. Semifinals and finals are set for August 26 and 30.
The local reporter Xavier Breul in Le Progrès recently told NTB he thought Hegerberg is some distance away from full training and “a maximum of maybe two minutes on the field in a possible final”.
– Funny. She is not ready to play in the Champions League. It will be up to Lyon if they want to take her in the squad, says mother Gerd Hegerberg to Dagbladet.
When asked if she thinks her daughter is ready for the match on Saturday, she answers:
– It’s just a matter of counting on the fingers how long ago it was she operated on the knee, says Gerd Hegerberg.
Hegerberg scored three goals in the Champions League final last year when Lyon beat Barcelona 4-1.
Lyon recently won the French Cup. It happened after a penalty shootout against Paris St. Germain. Hegerberg sat in the stands.
Knee injuries like the one Hegerberg sustained usually take from nine to 12 months to recover from. And it is not uncommon for athletes to face other challenges during the convalescence.
