Cristiano Ronaldo crowned as the best player or duel player Portugal against Ghana in the 2022 World Cup after scoring just one goal from the penalty spot on Thursday (24/11).
Portugal narrowly won 3-2 over Ghana in their first Group H match for the 2022 World Cup at the 974 stadium. Cristiano Ronaldo contributed a goal in the match.
CR7 broke through Ghana’s goal in the 65th minute. In that match Ronaldo, who now has no team, only appeared for 88 minutes after being replaced by Goncalo Ramos.
Even the penalty received by Ronaldo was considered controversial. The reason is the 50-50 incident between Ronaldo and Mohammed Salisu.
Even though he didn’t play the whole match and only scored one goal from a penalty, Ronaldo was still named player of the match.
This award seems a bit strange compared to the role of Bruno Fernandes who provided two assists for goals by Joao Felix and Rafael Leao.
The website Whoscored also noted that Fernandes’ value in the match was better than Ronaldo, 8 against 7.4.
Ronaldo’s only best stat in that match was having four shots, according to the FIFA website. It’s just that of the four shots, two hit.
Meanwhile, apart from two assists, Bruno Fernandes became the player with the longest distance covered at 11.59 kilometres. The Manchester United midfielder also logged 30 attempts to penetrate the opposition defence, 27 of which were successful.
Even so, Ronaldo, who only scored one penalty and squandered a number of chances, remains the best player. The penalty made Ronaldo the first player to score consistently in five World Cups.
“I can give this award to Joao Felix, Bruno Fernandes, Danilo, to them. I can give it to the whole team because they fought so much,” said Ronaldo.
