Confrontations between police and partying youngsters in Brussels

Last night, the Brussels police cleared a square where an estimated 500 people were partying, partly due to the end of the curfew. This resulted in confrontations: the partygoers threw projectiles at the police, who then deployed the water cannon.

Yesterday was the first day that the terraces in Belgium were open again. They closed at 10 p.m., but many people did not go home, partly because a curfew has not been in effect since this weekend.

In Brussels alone, thousands of young people got stuck. They drank in the street and danced to music played through speakers they had brought along.
