On the 26th, the power of the people showed a divergence without being able to decide on a party issue due to regional interests over the handling of the plenary session of the Special Act on Gadeokdo Island. The power of the people is said to have been privately debated over the Gadeokdo Special Law from the private assembly held on that day. Due to the sharp conflict of opinions between the Daegu-Gyeongbuk and Busan-Gyeongnam lawmakers, the party was not able to decide, and the plenary session decided to make a free vote, leaving it to the judgment of each lawmaker. Rep. Gwak Sang-do, Rep. Lee Man-hee of Daegu Gyeongbuk Province, said, “I understand that the party is pushing for a special law ahead of the Busan mayor’s by-election, but to do so, the Daegu New Airport Special Act had to be dealt with.” He said he asked, “Please reveal your position to promote it.” On the other hand, Rep. Seo Byung-soo, Ha Tae-gyeong, and Ha Young-je, from Busan and Gyeongnam, replied, “At the level of the party leadership, we had to declare support for the Special Law on Gadeok Island more quickly and proactively.”
Earlier, the two tops in the party, Kim Jong-in, chairman of the Emergency Response Committee, and Joo Ho-young, the hospital representative, were also greatly divided. Regarding President Moon Jae-in’s visit to the new airport site on Gadeokdo Island on the 25th, Chairman Kim responded with reservation in a call with the Dong-A Ilbo, saying, “What can’t we say about the president’s movement?” Congressman Ha also said on CBS Radio, “Why don’t you be generous with such aegyo?” On the other hand, the national representative of the house, who has a regional district in Daegu, stressed, “We will take decisive legal actions without letting the President’s governmental elections and elections intervene.”
