The resignation of 92 of the 113 emergency nurses was narrowly avoided thanks to changes announced on Tuesday, including the transfer of their unit chief and the reassignment of some ambulances to other hospitals.

“It solves the problem of the threat of resignation en bloc. […] But I’m very much afraid that there are others sit-in in the future,” dropped Denis Cloutier, president of the Union of Care Professionals of the East-of-the-Island of Montreal.

Again Tuesday evening, 12 out of 24 nurses were missing, reports Mr. Cloutier.

“Eight volunteered to work overtime, which probably means that four others had to do TSO,” he illustrates, specifying that he did not envisage a break in service.

“You see that they have the weight of overtime on their shoulders,” said Danielle Dionne, who had accompanied her daughter suffering from Crohn’s disease to the emergency room on Monday.

Ambulances, about seven a day, according to Mr. Cloutier, will also be sent to other hospitals to lighten the workload in Maisonneuve-Rosemont.

“We will have support from the health network to reduce the number of ambulances received at HMR. You have to start having a little less volume, have a work-family balance, ”explained the CEO of the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, Jean-François Fortin-Verreault.

This decision is not without concern for the president of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital Users’ Committee, Patrick Cothenet.

“Our concern is that patients get the care they deserve and are not diverted. We have a hospital, it must be functional. »

In addition, the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, appointed a mediator to bring nurses and managers closer together, acknowledging that the situation was “untenable”.
