A recent meeting of the Volkswagen Group’s Supervisory Board finally decided to move production of both the Passat and the Superb to Slovakia. It will be in the established factory of the plant in Devínská Nová Ves, Bratislava. Here, the VW Group already produces cars for Volkswagen itself (Touareg) and Audi (Q7, Q8), but also for the luxury brand Porsche (Cayenne). On the contrary, the production of the group toddlers Up !, Citigo and Mii is slowly coming to an end, which will make room for larger models.

The information about the transfer of production of both middle-class models was confirmed by the head of the concern, Herbert Diess, in an interview for the German Automobilwoche. The carmaker plans to invest one billion euros in the factory, as a new assembly hall and body shop will be built for the production of new models. By the way, the Passat was produced in Slovakia right after the factory opened in December 1991 (at the time it was the B3 generation). It will be a premiere for Superb, but a few weeks ago, the Škoda carmaker moved part of the production of the Karoq model from the overloaded Kvasin.
