Confirmed. Renault’s best-selling electric car will end

Renault Zoe continues to be one of the best-selling electric cars in Europe. Nevertheless, the French manufacturer does not count on its new generation.

Renault intends to significantly expand its operations in the field of electric cars in the future, though by 2025, it wants to introduce seven new electric cars. That’s why the news may surprise that Renault is not counting on a new generation of the Zoe, its best-selling electric car and one of the most sought-after electric cars in Europe as part of this expansion.

It was talked about at the beginning of the year, as part of the brand’s announced future strategy, and the plan has now been confirmed directly by Renault’s boss Luca de Meo. Automobile market analyst Matthias Schmidt informed that Zoe will be terminated in 2024.

However, this does not mean that Renault will completely leave such a promising segment. The end of Zoe will clear the way for the new Renault 5, which will become a replacement for this small electric hatchback. Renault believes that the modern five with its retro look has a better chance of succeeding in the market than perhaps a little ordinary-looking Zoe.

The new Renault 5 is due to debut in 2023, but sales will probably not start until a year later, following the end of Zoe. An Alpine hot hatch will also be derived from it.

The car uses style concept introduced this year, the bowels will be directly adapted to the electric drive. Specifically, the modern five will use the new CMF-BEV platform designed for smaller electric cars. It will be derived from the CMF-B known from the current Clia, and with a small hatchback with conventional units, the architecture has to share most of the components that are not directly related to the electric drive. This step will help reduce development costs. That’s why Renault already stated at the premiere that the five will be a stylish, but at the same time affordable car.

The Renault Zoe has been on sale since 2012, making it one of the pioneers of electric drive in Europe. In 2019, the second generation arrived, which, however, retained the bowels of its predecessor. However, it offered larger batteries or 50 kW DC charging.
