It’s been an open secret in hockey circles for the past few weeks. Now the Ducks have decided to go all out with the unveiling of the new captain. Czech defender Radko Gudas will have the Céčko embroidered on his jersey.
Anaheim has not been in a hurry to choose a captain in recent years, as they have been without him since the end of the 2021/2022 season. That’s when Ryan Getzlaf decided to hang up his skates and there was no adequate replacement in the club to handle this function. Now everything has changed.
After arriving before last season, Gudas immediately fit in with his new teammates and became one of the most experienced players on the team, which he subsequently demonstrated on the ice as well. He has natural respect from his teammates, so the management decided to act. The Czech defender will be the ninth captain in Ducks history!
“I am honored to be named captain and lead the Ducks into an exciting era. I am proud of the trust placed in me by the general manager, coaches and teammates,” said the Czech hard-liner on his election.
In the past, names like Jaromír Jágr, Patrik Eliáš and Milan Hejduk enjoyed the name tag on the chest of Czech players. Bobby Holík cannot be left out either. Martin Straka, Jaroslav Špaček and Filip Kuba also had a short time.
