The Porto Court of Appeal rejected Seixas da Costa’s appeal in the aggravated defamation process against Sérgio Conceição. The ambassador will even have to pay a fine of €2,200 and compensation of €6,000 to the blue and white coach for calling him a “javardo”, in a publication on Twitter, in March 2019.
For the Court of Bolhão, in Porto, the expression “pejorative” aimed at the person and not the coach. And the author of the statement – a diplomat who knows how to use the word and whose function is to resolve conflicts – did not utter it during a game at the stadium; he wrote it behind a computer when he had time to reflect. Explain the decision.
Sérgio Conceição’s lawyer has already announced that the coach will donate the amount to an institution of social solidarity in Porto.
