These last few months under the state of alarm and confinement due to the coronavirus crisis have changed in one way or another the lives of all Spaniards, and have also meant news in the interest of potential buyers to find their new home. The fear of a new quarantine and the possibility of teleworking have made many citizens rethink where they want to live in the future.
With data from idealista / dating during the past month of May from the contacts received in the announcements of idealista, the main real estate marketplace in Spain, we highlight those municipalities where interest in buying a larger home with better characteristics has grown notably to face a future quarantine in the face of the period prior to the confinement decreed in mid-March.
At the national level, among the typology of larger home with better features The increase in interest in buying chalets (4.2%), apartments with four or more bedrooms (3%) and apartments with a garden and swimming pool (1.7%) stand out.

If we zoom in on the rest of the province, the municipalities of Griñón and Getafe they are the ones that have more than doubled the contacts to the advertisements of apartments with a garden and a swimming pool, followed by Collado Villalba and San Fernando de Henares.
If we look at the municipalities where contacts have increased the most for flats with four or more bedrooms, some known as Miraflores de la Sierra or Cobeña, along with others unknown to most such as Daganzo de Arriba or Villamanta, ahead of large municipalities such as Pozuelo de Alarcón or Villanueva de la Cañada. Finally, contacts interested in buying a chalet have skyrocketed in Canencia, Colmenarejo or Belmonte del Tajo.
In the Barcelona province, contacts for flats with four or more bedrooms (3%) were also the most prominent, ahead of chalets (1.2%), while interest in flats with gardens and pools fell again (-6% ). Interest in the purchase of villas in the city of Barcelona had the highest increase of the three types analyzed with 19%, while four-bedroom flats increased by 8%. Meanwhile, the contacts for apartments with gardens and pools fell in May compared to the period prior to confinement.
In the rest of the province, the municipalities of La Garriga, Alella or Cardedeu as the most prominent for the purchase of apartments with gardens and pools, while the Callus, Cabrils or Montmeló they were where contacts to buy four-bedroom flats doubled last May. The Valencia province maintains the trend of the previous two, with increases in contacts to large apartments (6%) and villas (5.1%), while those to apartments with gardens and pools (-12%) fell. In the city of Valencia, however, there is greater similarity between the interest in buying one of these houses: chalets (15%), garden and pool (11.5%) and flats with four or more bedrooms (11%).
In the rest of the towns in the province, the interest in buying apartments with a garden and a swimming pool does grow, doubling in Quart de Poblet, Aldaia or El Saler. While in L’Alcudia, Almássera or Palma de Gandía the contacts to flats with four or more bedrooms stand out. Finally, the municipalities where the interest in villas has stood out were in Yatova, Losa del Obispo or Algemesi.
In the province of Vizcaya, the highest interest in buying a home last May was for villas (12.4%), ahead of flats with four or more bedrooms (12%). Once again, the apartments with gardens and pools decreased in contacts (-15%) in May compared to the period prior to confinement.
In the city of Bilbao, the only thing that grew among these types of homes were large flats (9%), while flats with gardens and pools or chalets had fewer contacts in idealista ads during the last month.
Outside of Bilbao, Morga Portugalete, Sopuerta saw interest grow in buying a villa in their municipality, while Barrika, Gorliz or Plentzia were the most prominent in the contacts for flats with four or more bedrooms. Getxo and Amorebieta-Echano had the largest contacts in the province for apartments with gardens and pools.
In the analysis we incorporate the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and in this case to the entire island of Gran Canaria, instead of to the province, made up of the other eastern islands of the Canary archipelago of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
