Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa referred this Friday to the news published on the front page of the Spanish newspaper “El País”, giving account of the denial that was made by the Government through a note issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The President of the Republic declared that it was necessary to “restore the truth” regarding the information released by that newspaper that the confinement of three million inhabitants in Lisbon would have been imposed.
“Only the state of calamity is maintained in a limited number of parishes”, clarified Marcelo, and “in all the others there is a transition to a less serious state, namely the state of alert”.
In this Friday’s edition, “El País” reported that the Portuguese government had ordered the confinement of three million people, which prompted a denial by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with an urgent request for correction of the information, claiming to be ” totally false “that decision had been made.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs deeply regrets that a newspaper with the prestige and responsibility of ‘El País’ publishes such a falsehood,” says the note released, which adds: [O MNE] wait to [o ‘El País’] can make the necessary correction with the urgency and publicity that this falsehood requires “.
