Confindustria: Orsini-Gozzi pact for after Bonomi, but there is the risk of defections

The excluded Antonio Gozzi, president of Duferco and Federacciai, a few days ago, had indicated Orsini to his supporters as the candidate to support. Shifting a significant package of votes towards the Emilian. at least fifteen preferences, over one of Carlo Bonomi’s current deputies, with responsibility for Finance, Credit and Taxes, who left months ago to win the presidency of the association. On the eve of a match that promised to be uncertain, even if Orsini’s entourage has been considering victory within reach for days, arrives Garrone’s move to avoid reaching a count and, perhaps, even his defeat. A way then to prevent the Orsini-Gozzi axis from being welded, thus handing over a sort of golden-share to the president of Federacciai, perhaps arriving at a more collegial and open management of Confindustria after Bonomi. Hence the reference that a president must be free to choose his own team, without constraints. “It is in fact clear that strong fractures and strong tensions have arisen within Confindustria. It is of no use to the Association that a candidate can win by a few votes, perhaps the result of excessive “commitments or exchanges” which for me are intolerable and unacceptable”, writes Garrone. And then a reference to the concept of manufacturing. “There is no competition to see who among us is “more manufacturing” than others. Because we must not build castes, but responsible classes that have equal dignity, women and men equal among equals, where each of our member has the same importance as the others, each of our companies can have the right of representation, in an associative world, ours, which represents the manufacturing industry, but also the tourism, services and logistics industries, just to name a few , that is, all its souls and its realities in each of our territories and categories”.

From this comparison, after the final twist of Garrone’s exit, the fact emerges that the small and medium enterprise model, that of Emilia and the North-East, takes the reins of Confindustria, overtaking the large enterprise of the North, among Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria, which failed to express a single strong candidate, but was divided between two Ligurians: Garrone on one side and Gozzi on the other. Carrying forward from January onwards a clash which in recent weeks has reached very different levels, in addition to Velen. A situation that favored Orsini’s climb up Viale dell’Astronomi. Now we need to see how the Emilian will try to recompose the situation to better govern Confindustria in the coming years.
