Almost a month after it occurred, East Palestine, Ohio, continues to suffer the ravages of the railway accident that occurred on February 3, when a 150-car train carrying chemicals that were harmful to health and the environment derailed.
President Joe Biden was able to go to Ukraine, but not to this town, affected by one of the most important chemical disasters in history.
The issue has been qualified by most of the media allied to Biden and his party, the Democrats, with the notable exception of ABC. And highlighting the abjection of NBC, which would ask nothing of the PRI Televisa.
It is not for less. Before the aforementioned town, where around 5,000 people live, exposure to chemicals was generated, the most serious consequences of which will take time to know. But that there will be, there will be.
At the moment, there are thousands of dead fish in the area and residents report having headaches, despite the fact that the area was evacuated for a week.
The Biden administration has focused on a campaign of damage control, instead of investigating the causes, arresting those responsible, and resolving the situation. For example: they have gone house to house, to “reassure” residents. Nothing that the old PRI had not done in Mexico.
The crashed train, operated by Norfolk Southern, one of America’s major railroad companies, had 150 cars and was running from Illinois to Pennsylvania. It was just about to complete its route, although, according to security camera videos, the problems appeared before the derailment. The cause of the mishap is attributed to a failure in the axle of the wagons.
Of those 150 wagons, 50 were destroyed. And of those 50, in 10 were the toxic substances, such as butyl acrylate, ethylhexyl acrylate and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether.
However, the substance of greatest concern is vinyl chloride, since it can cause, at the very least, respiratory problems and vomiting; at most, liver damage or liver cancer.
On Monday, February 13, ABC reported that there were more toxic chemicals on the train than authorities had admitted.
The concerns of the residents persist and, in the typical ruse of current governments, that of Biden seeks, through its officials, to reassure people, with allegedly scientific arguments, who are more reminiscent of those “returns to normality” after any disaster in 20th century Mexico, than to a genuine intent to restore life in East Palestine, if it can be restored, on the basis of truth.
And that seems to be the main problem. What has been seen in the US authorities is an excessive interest in covering up the causes – where the mechanical failure that caused the accident is more of a symptom – and burying the consequences under a pile of so-called appeasing speeches.
The price of this disaster, bru
