A college student who won a bodyweight exercise competition even while fighting cancer is making waves with a motivational video.

The YouTube channel ‘Power POWER’, which has over 15,600 subscribers, has been uploading videos of bodyweight exercises for about three years.

Kim Dong-ho (23), who runs this channel, has been fighting cancer ever since he was first discovered with head and neck cancer when he was 7 or 8 years old.

He said, “I underwent more than 20 surgeries due to cancer that developed when I was young.” He continued, “Even though my bones were deformed, my nerves were paralyzed, my shoulders sank, and my body suffered permanent damage, I continued to challenge myself. “I told myself that it wasn’t just about taking on the challenge, but that I could always believe in myself and do it,” he said.

Mr. Kim said, “I want to stop fighting cancer and completely cure it.” He added, “Currently, I am not using chemotherapy or radiation treatment, and when it recurs, it is removed through surgery. “There are still a few bad organizations left, including the head, so we are watching the progress.”

Mr. Kim, who started exercising in his first year of high school, does pull-ups every day. Because I have been sick since I was young, I feel weak and pessimistic when compared to healthy people, so I have been living a life of abandoning negative thoughts and valuing myself since I was in high school.

He is doing bodyweight exercises, such as pull-ups, at home or at the playground. He developed his physical strength enough to do push-ups in a handstand position while wearing a hospital gown, and from last year to this year, he became the winner of several events at the National Martial Arts Festival and the Gwanghwamun K-Body Exercise Competition.

He expressed his thoughts about winning, saying, “I am receiving treatment for cancer, and I hope that showing that I can do this will motivate others.”

Quoting Friedrich Nietzsche’s famous saying, “The pain that does not kill me makes me stronger,” he said, “That fear led me here,” and has been showing himself doing the bar exercise from 2021 until now.

He said, “My channel name does not simply mean strength. “It is of French origin and also means ‘I can do it,’” he said, showing his appearance when he won the competition last September. Mr. A pulled himself up onto the bar several more times even after his competitors gave up and took first place. Mr. A’s challenge erupted in applause at the scene.
