The boss of the Better.com company, Vishal Garg, has fired 900 employees via Zoom. One of the employees spoke up.
An employee named Christian Chapman said he was surprised by the words his boss made when he invited more than 900,000 employees via Zoom. He did not expect the call to fire employees.
“I really feel it hurts inside. I don’t know how to explain it. It feels like I’ve been kicked in the stomach, and I don’t know what to do,” he said. CBC, Thursday (9/12/2021).
“I’ve been in the mortgage industry for 20 years and it surprised me. I’ve never seen layoffs handled like that,” he added.
He also admitted trying to contact other colleagues. However, the Zoom meeting just ended after the announcement of the dismissal.
“For the torturous 3.5 hours, we didn’t get anything. We were left in the dark (Zoom Meeting dead),” he said.
He wondered why this was done even though according to him the company was growing. Even the new company received an injection of US$ 750 million last week from Softbank, Better.com’s main investor.
“It was callous. It was premeditated, I mean, for everything just to close like that,” he said.
