Conference: WEBSTER History of the presence and slavery of Blacks in New France

History of the presence and slavery of Blacks in New France and under the English regime.

The first African slave to Canada arrived in Quebec City in 1629; his name was Olivier Lejeune and belonged to Guillaume Couillard. Few people know that there were black and Native American slaves in New France under the English regime. Webster recounts this little-known part of our history and examines the presence of people of African descent, captive or free, who have populated Quebec and Canada since the beginnings of the colony.

Aly Ndiaye, aka WEBSTER, is a hip-hop artist who was born and raised in the Limoilou district of Quebec. He travels the world to give writing workshops and concerts. With a background in history, he has been passionate about the story of the presence of blacks in Quebec since the beginning of the 17the century.
