“Conference on Rumba and its African Roots to be held in Reims in May 2023”

The conference will take place from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Jean-Falala media library in Reims, and will feature two speakers: the writer José Nzolani, president of the Culture rumba association, radio host, and Damien Charron, musician-researcher, professor of music and former director of a retired music and dance conservatory.

They will remind the public, among other things, that the rumba, as it is currently known, rather as a Latin dance, has its origins in the two Congos, hence its name. And that it legitimately entered the intangible cultural heritage of humanity with Unesco in 2021.

An opportunity for José Nzolani to present and sign his new book “Learn Lingala through the rumba”a work intended to discover a part of the Bantu civilization and the message of its traditional oral literature through texts that harmonize with catchy melodies.
