Conference on improving the economic and environmental sustainability of farms with good manure management practices

The Mabegondo Agricultural Research Center (CIAM) organizes the next one Friday November 25tha technical conference entitled “We improve the sustainability of farms with good practices in manure management”.

The training will be delivered both in person and online and is primarily aimed at livestock farmers or individuals with incorporation expectations, interested in learning about practices in slurry application that increase nutrient use efficiency, reduce environmental impact and improve soil health/fertility.

The program is as follows:

10:00-10:15 Presentation of the Conference. José Luis Cabarcos Corral-Director of AGACAL. Abelardo Nimo Silva-Director of CIAM.

10:15-10:45 Draft Royal Decree on the sustainable management of agricultural soils. Calculation of nutrient requirements of forage crops with RAX tools. Mª Isabel García Pomar – Researcher at CIAM-AGACAL.

10:45-11:15 Environmental management of organic fertilization. Jesús Martínez Martínez – Technician of the Environmental Evaluation Service.

11:15-12:00 Manure management in Northern Portugal. Environmental problem. Henrique Trindade – Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro.

12:00-12:30 Rest. Coffee

12:30-13:15 Possibility of reducing the carbon footprint in dairy farms by recycling the sewage generated in the farms. Crop simulations and rotations with the DairyCant model. Gregorio Salcedo Díaz – Teacher at CIFP La Granja. Cantabrian.

13:15-13:45 Fertilization of forage crops with slurry. Research results at CIAM. Dolores Báez Bernal – Researcher at CIAM-AGACAL.

13:45-15:00 Roundtable “Sewage management in the new Community Agricultural Policy” Moderator: Juan Castro Insua – CIAM-AGACAL researcher

This conference takes place within the framework of the Transfer Plan to support demonstration and information activities in the Galician countryside 2022, co-financed with the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (FEADER) under the PDR of Galicia 2014-2020.
