The first international conference of Egides – Geneva 2021: 4 years after the very first international conference on LGBTQI issues in the Francophonie – Montreal 2017
The international conference “Living equality and diversity in the Francophonie: culture, health, safety” is an essential moment to establish an inventory of the major issues facing the communities of lesbian, gay and bisexual people. s, trans, queers and intersex (LGBTQI) in the French-speaking world.
It will also be an opportunity for a dialogue between civil society organizations members of Egides and academic and institutional circles in order to identify priority courses of action to help groups and activists working in the field.
The conference takes place over three days, each with its own theme:
Why a francophone conference on LGBTQI issues?
Several analyzes and research have shown that, at the international level, networks in the Francophone space of LGBTQI people have long suffered from isolation, more than in Anglophone spaces (to name but a few), in particular. no longer having limited access to resources and suffering in silence, without having a real voice that can carry their demands.
This observation also emerged from the first international conference on LGBTQI issues in the Francophonie that took place in Montreal in 2017 and from which the creation of Égides – the International Francophone Alliance for Equality and Diversities resulted. This event will therefore be an opportunity to observe and discuss the points on which we have seen progress or setbacks, to understand and analyze the most urgent issues for LGBTQI communities and the way in which they are expressed in the French-speaking area and more generally on a global scale.
