Coach Antonio Conte had confirmed several corona cases at Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, now the game of the Premier League club in the Europa Conference League against Stades Rennes planned for Thursday (9:00 p.m.) has been canceled, as the English announced. Talks with UEFA about a new date are still ongoing.
Update, 11:35 p.m .: Stade Rennes contradicted the announcement of the “Spurs” late on Wednesday evening. The cancellation was a unilateral decision that UEFA has not confirmed in any way. Tottenham did not want to announce exactly how many players are affected by the corona outbreak. The rules actually state that a game must take place as long as the team concerned has 13 field players and a goalkeeper. The North Londoners are said to have argued with an official order, but without submitting a single official document.
As Conte previously announced, eight “Spurs” players and five employees tested positive for the corona virus. It was not known who it was. The professional training center will be temporarily closed. Next Sunday the next Premier League game would take place in Brighton.
Conte had expressed incomprehension that the game should continue initially. “The situation upsets me a little because the situation is serious,” said the Italian. “Every day we have more positive test results. Everyone is a little scared. People have families. Why do we have to take the risk? “
We can confirm that our UEFA Europa Conference League Group G home fixture against Stade Rennais will not take place tomorrow after a number of positive COVID-19 cases at the Club.
