Big surprise at Chelsea. Engaged in 4 competitions this season, the London club will play in the Europa Conference League. However, the English team does not intend to call up some of its best players.
Indeed, Chelsea have decided not to include Cole Palmer, Wesley Fofana or Romeo Lavia in their squad for the C4 league phase.
Despite being the big favourite in the Conference League this season, Chelsea have made a strong choice for the league phase. Cole Palmer, Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia, potential starters in the Premier League, have all three been left out of the list unveiled this Thursday by the club. A move that aims to preserve its players, in a league phase that should, a priori, not pose any difficulties for them.
The best element of the Blues squad, attacking midfielder Cole Palmer (22 years old) seems to have been sidelined to keep moments of respite and have freshness as the season progresses.
If they qualify for the next stage of the tournament, this should not prevent them from being added to the list in the knockout stages, depending on Chelsea’s decision.
With four competitions to play this season, in addition to the new format of the Club World Cup this summer, the Blues are preparing to play a particularly rhythmic and busy exercise, like many European clubs.
Adding to this the breaks played by the internationals, the question of the overload of the calendar risks once again coming to the forefront.
