A document that describes the state of difficulty facing the agricultural sector, the actions carried out and the possible solutions to bring about the changes long awaited by entrepreneurs in the sector. They delivered it Confagricoltura Campania and its five provincial unions (Avellino, Benevento, Caserta, Naples e Salerno) to the respective prefects, as representatives of the territorial offices of the Government. A copy of the document was delivered by the president of Confagricoltura Campania, Fabrizio Marzanoalso to the president of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca and to the regional councilor for Agriculture Nicola Caputo.
A document also for the minister
In the document, already presented to the European Commission and the minister Lollobrigida, the critical issues affecting the various sectors of agriculture are summarized and the solutions to be adopted according to Confagricoltura are proposed. “TOToday we are witnessing a widespread and evident inequality between production costs and the final price to the consumer. In order to increase the profitability of the agricultural sector – it is underlined in the document – we can intervene on both sides. We are listening carefully to farmers’ requests for help and will bring them to institutional tables, both in the Campania Region and in Europe. The sense of Europe that we farmers contributed to establishing more than sixty years ago has disappeared. The policies adopted by the last Commission aimed at the productive destructuring of Europe, according to models that look more at the themes of environmentalist ideology rather than at healthy pragmatism”.
The contraction of income
There are many problems affecting the primary sector. “We are talking about a serious contraction in operators’ income, if not even production at a loss and Europe is asking us not to produce. The EU has not understood that farmers are not part of the problem, but victims of climate change. But the time has come – the document asks – to prepare an ambitious growth plan. We cannot reduce everything to a discussion that depends only on Europe: we too must be protagonists of our present and build our future together”. In the Confagricoltura document it outlines a path which, starting from a reduction in costs to be achieved also through a reduction in the tax burden and from some necessary bureaucratic simplifications, leads to an injection of liquidity which finally allows us to concretely start all the investments necessary for development of the agricultural sector.
