Currently, it is crucial to be alert and take measures to prevent possible scams related to credit cards. Financial scams are a persistent threat, so it is important to be aware of the notifications made by banks and authorities.

That is why the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Condusef) issued an alert about a new form of fraud, which is related to offering loans or credit cards with minimum requirements.

What is the new scam announced by Condusef like?

The agency explained that the deception usually begins with messages that contain links, where credit cards or loans are offered in a very easy way to obtain, however, to obtain these financial benefits, it is not easy.

In addition, victims may be asked for money as a condition or “requirement” for granting a loan, so people are advised to distrust alleged financial institutions that require a certain amount to be able to give a loan.

Also, one way to know if it is a fraud or not, is to verify the presence of the financial company in the Financial Services Providers Registry system (SIPRES) before making any movement, in case the institution does not appear, This means that the financial institution is not legitimate or is failing to comply with regulations.

How to avoid financial scams?

Here are some important guidelines to avoid credit card scams:

  • Regular Transaction Monitoring: Review your credit card statements regularly. Look for any suspicious or unauthorized transactions and report them immediately to your financial institution.
  • Protection of Personal Data: Do not share personal information or credit card details through unsecured emails or unverified calls.
  • Update Passwords: Regularly change the passwords associated with your online accounts, including those related to credit cards.
  • Transaction Alerts: Activate transaction alerts on your credit cards.
  • Immediate Reporting of Lost or Stolen Cards: If you lose your credit card or suspect it has been stolen, report the situation to your financial institution immediately to block the card and prevent unauthorized use.
