Conductor Šišonas is accepted as a citizen of Latvia for merits for the state The news


Riga, Dec. 3, LETA. Today, the Saeima received the internationally known conductor Karel Marks Šišons for special merits for the benefit of the state in Latvian citizenship.

“Chichon is one of the most interesting young conductors, who enchants the audience all over the world with his temperament, enthusiasm and musicality,” the information attached to the Saeima decision said.

The conductor was born in 1971 in London, but has been a resident of Latvia since 2009. From 2009 to 2012, Chichon was the chief conductor and artistic director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. He is married to Latvian mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča, and their children already have Latvian citizenship.

From 2011 to 2017, Chichon was the chief conductor of the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, while in 2017 he was appointed chief conductor and artistic director of the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra. An agreement was concluded with him until 2023.

“Chisons is known to the Latvian public first as a long-term partner of the LNSO,” the information prepared by the Saeima indicates. During his career, Chichon has popularized Latvian music and artists both in Latvia and internationally, including choosing to conduct compositions by Ādolfs Skulte, Emīls Dārziņš and Raimonds Pauls.
