The concert with the participation of Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, conductor Ainars Rubikis and soloists will be available in the concert hall Homepage, on the public media portal LSM.lv, but live audio can be enjoyed on Latvian Radio 3 “Klasika”.
Representatives of the concert hall also informed that due to the restrictions set during the emergency situation, the concert will not be available to visitors in person and the paid money will be returned to the ticket holders.
The celebration of the 102nd anniversary of the Latvian state will be the first time Ainars Rubikis, who has gained international recognition and has just been awarded the highest Russian theater award “Golden Mask” in the category “Best Opera Conductor”, will enter the conductor’s desk in Liepaja Concert Hall. The conductor intends to make his debut in Liepāja Concert Hall “Lielais dzintars” by creating a particularly uplifting, solemn and patriotic program for the concert, in which Latvian folklore and national moods will be intertwined with the pearls of romanticism created by the great spirits of Latvian symphonic music.
“My very rare stay at home in Latvia played a key role in creating the program.
The longer I am away from my land, the more I want to return to its roots, ”said Ainārs Rubiķis, the artistic director and conductor of the concert, the musical director of the Berlin Comic Opera.
The concert will be opened by the solemn Adolf Skulte Overture. In the continuation of the program, one of Latvia’s brightest pianists of the moment, Daumants Liepiņš, will interpret the “Latvian Rhapsody” by the late master of romanticism Peteris Barison. Five Latvian folk songs arranged by Jānis Mediņš will be sung by the dramatic soprano Liene Kinča, who started her career at the Latvian National Opera but is currently performing in important foreign operas. The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will perform Mārtiņš Brauns’ ballad “Tālavas taurētājs”, and at the end of the program – Imants Kalniņš’s suite “Rotāju, dancoju”.
The concert will be hosted by musicologist and Latvian Radio 3 “Klasika” program manager Liene Jakovļeva. In the meantime of the concert, listeners will be offered interviews with the concert conductor Ainārs Rubiķis, pianist Daumants Liepiņš and the management of the concert hall “Lielais dzintars”.
The concert is organized by SIA “Lielais dzintars” with the support of Liepāja Municipality and the State Cultural Capital Fund. The live broadcast is supported by the Cultural Information Systems Center (KISC). Live and concert recording is provided by HDPD Productions & Dreams.
The Cultural Information Systems Center will ensure the preservation of the concert recording in the ERDF project “Digitization of Cultural Heritage Content (Round 1)” and will offer the recording to all interested parties in the open access audiovisual recording portal Diva.lv at the end of the year.
